Genetic counseling
One in three people will develop cancer in her or his future. Though scientists are still learning about the causes of cancer, it is know that both environmental and hereditary (family history) factors play a part. If one or more of the following situations applies to you or your immediate family, there is an increased chance that your breast cancer was hereditary: • Breast cancer diagnosed before age 50 or age 60 with certain tumor types. • Two different cancers in one person • Breast cancer diagnosed in two or more relatives • Two or more relatives diagnosed with related cancers, such as breast and ovarina. If you are concerned about your family history, talk to your physician about a cancer risk assessment or contact one of the genetic counselors listed in this Directory.
