Completing Cancer Treatment

Are you ready for treatment to end? Yes! And no. It’s normal to have some mixed feelings about finishing cancer treatment.

At the Day of Caring conference in 2004, just 34% of survivors told us that they felt completely prepared for treatment to be over.

If you have any anxiety about completing treatment, you can:

• Tell your medical team how you feel. Work with them on a follow-up screening plan.

• Let other survivors know how you feel. They may feel or have felt the same way.

• Let your family and friends know how you feel and ask for their support as you find your “new” normal.

Facing Forward: Life After Cancer Treatment

The National Cancer Institute has a booklet called “Facing Forward: Life After Cancer Treatment” that many people find helpful. This booklet covers post-treatment issues such as follow up medical care, physical and emotional changes, changes in social relationships, and workplace issues.

For a free copy, call 800-422-6237. The booklet is also available in Spanish.
